While it’s important to have hobbies and to stay active, it can often cost you an arm and a leg to get set up! From gear to tools to classes and training, the bill starts to add up, stunting your motivation and leaving you questioning your decision to begin in the first place.

When it comes to running, you technically only need a pair of shorts or leggings, a top and a comfortable pair of sneakers. But, many sports addicts like to indulge in the nice-to-haves and that is where things get pricey!

So, with the Capegate Clicks Charity Run being hosted at Capegate Shopping Centre later on this month, we thought we would take a look at how we can get started as running newbies, affordably!

Without further ado, here are a few of our favourite running essentials found right here at Capegate Shopping Centre that won’t break the bank.

A quality pair of comfortable, supportive running shoes is essential to the welfare of runners, as exercising in the wrong pair can cause severe damages to surrounding muscles and ligaments.

These are our favourite picks from Tekkie Town for both men (NIKE) and women (REEBOK), both costing below R1,000!

This one is for the ladies! While it may seem obvious to use a sports bra while exercising, you would be surprised how many people are heading out without the proper support for their ladies!

A quality, tight-fitting sports bra is absolutely essential but can be pricey, depending on the brand. While name brands like PUMA are often on the more expensive side, these training bras we found are under R300 each. Bargain!

Whether you have a pre-diagnosed ankle impairment or simply want to play it safe, this Ultimate Performance Elastic Ankle Support band will do the trick for only R180 (Item found at TotalSports).

For some, heading off on a run without music is out of the question! For the music lovers, these arm bands from Mr. Price Sport (R99) & TotalSports (R229) are must-haves!

No matter how experienced you are at the sport of running, replenishing your body with plenty of water is always a smart idea. But, with water & exercise comes sweat. Good thing TotalSports has this light-weight towel for only R129!
