We focus strongly on managing our centre in an environmentally responsible manner with regard to energy, water, and waste. Capegate has an onsite waste management plant which is responsible for recycling all waste generated by visitors and stores. Support our #Antiplastic campaign by refusing single-use plastics such as plastic bags or straws and help reduce the plastic waste polluting our oceans.
As a result of the severe drought Cape Town recently suffered, Capegate has also implemented various water-saving measures, including the use of borehole water, installation of water tanks and reverse-osmosis plants, as well as reusing run-off water in our bathrooms and using grey water for irrigation. Please support our efforts and use this precious commodity sparingly when visiting our centre.
Additionally, various energy efficient technologies are also in place with regard to lighting, air-conditioning, and insulation in order to reduce our carbon footprint.
For the community
We love the community we serve and are involved in various social and fundraising projects. This includes the CANSA Shavathon, WP Blood Transfusion, Cupcakes for Kids With Cancer and Friends of the Red Cross Children’s Hospital.
We also run a specific CSI campaign each December involving our visitors and tenants and a portion of the proceeds from our gift wrapping is also donated to a worthy charity each year.
Throughout the year, we assist schools and charity organisations in the Western Cape with their fundraising efforts. Please support our events and initiatives and show your love for our community too.
We have also launched our #CGDonation boxes in centre at entrance 8, which will look at supporting different initiatives every three months. The current initiatives being supported are Fisantekraal Animal Welfare, Ladles of Love, MES Cape Town and Miracle Kidz Safe House. Find out how you can get involved, here.
